Mildly Scenic began as a trail guide to Sacramento’s American River and developed into a brand of its own and a celebration of the local community. Greg was hired to help the author conceptualize the idea of celebrating one of the city’s most prominent natural features, and delivered a brand and book design that felt accessible to avid hikers and novices alike. Anchored in a playful and inviting color palette that matches the author’s wit and charm, the guide’s design easily translated to a range promotional materials and merchandise.

Greg looked beyond the book, and saw Mildly Scenic as a lifestyle and an opportunity to build community. He’s a true visionary with a gift for zooming out to the 30,000 foot view. Before we even got into organizing the words onto the pages of my book, Greg built a brand for me — something that wasn’t even on my radar at the time. The logo and the cover of the book stops people in their tracks, and has become the bedrock of an entire business.
